All AEDs approved by the FDA have the same basic functionality.

Once the pads are in place and the AED is prepared for analysis,

all AEDs function essentially the same way.

The basic differences between all the AEDs on the market are:

Ø      Ease of use

Ø      Reliability

Ø      Need for maintenance

Ø      Long term cost

Because of these issues we believe the Philips OnSite AED to be the most practical cost effective unit at this time.  We have found this unit to be the most user friendly AED on the market.

Ease of Use - The audio prompts are clear and concise.   If the user is not familiar with how to use the AED, the unit will take the user step by step through the process.  If the user is trained and familiar with the OnSite, the unit will keep pace with the user and skip any voice prompts for steps already completed.

Reliability - Since Heartstart AEDs were first put on the market, no recalls for any units or batteries have been issued.  Over the years other manufacturers have had problems with battery failures and other issues.

Maintenance - All Philips units run self-diagnostics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.  The only maintenance required is to regularly check to make sure the ready light is blinking green.  If the unit detects a problem the light will change from green to red.

Long term cost - The battery normally will last 4 – 5 years before needing replacement.  When the battery gets low, the unit emits a sound similar to a smoke detector with a low battery.  If the battery isn’t replaced the unit begins emitting an audio prompt “Low battery...replace battery now!”

Although we can help your organization with any brand of AED, for most applications we recommend the Philips OnSite.
